Mysteries of the Bread

Exodus 16:15:  And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

The Bread Never Changes

The aroma of freshly baked bread beckons all of us to sit together, eat, and enjoy.  Bread is a universal food. The Israelites kept twelve loaves on the altar at all times.  In the Old Testament, bread was the main food, and sometimes it was the only food to sustain life.  Bread also represented the relationship between God and his people.  His beloved Son was referenced as the Bread of Life, the sustaining substance for fulfillment and wholeness.

There are so many stories about the significance and purpose of bread in the Bible; however, let’s take a look at one story we’ve all heard about.

When God guided the Israelites through the wilderness, he gave them bread early every morning, every day of the week, not a day missed. He called it manna. (Exodus 16:8,12) God provided enough bread to keep them full all day. It was sufficient to meet their needs. This bread wasn’t for the week, month, or year, but for the day. This is why it was called your daily bread.

This bread was provided early in the morning, and if not eaten, the worms would devour it. Let’s say the Israelites chose not to get this manna, this bread, in the morning, and the worms devoured it. They would most likely have issues in their day that brought stresses that were hard to manage or overcome.  The benefit of receiving the bread early was to receive strength and courage to overcome issues, stress, and trouble during the day. This is when God’s people became overcomers in this world.

Could it be, if we would take of the daily bread before the dew falls in the morning, that this time with God would give us enough strength for our day? This is not only is our daily bread, but it is also the bread of life.  This is how we become strong. This is how we become an overcomer in this life.  The daily bread gives enough sustaining life for each person who is hungry enough to start the day with it.

Early in the morning when the dew rises from the ground and we get our bread, it will give us strength for the day just like it did for the Israelites. If we don’t get it early, the worm, the enemy will devour it. The stresses the day may bring become problems that rob us from having the day that God had planned for us. So today, start your day and get your bread. It is always there. It never changes. Live your life every day with strength. Be the overcomer that you were born to be.

Enjoy your day!
